The act of pointing the finger at people who apparently fail to do what they are told to and therefore become ill is known in public health as “victim blaming”. People who are seriously ill need help, not personal criticism. Even before the pandemic, England was experiencing an unprecedented public health emergency. As lockdown measures are lifted in England, we need local communities and their leaders to work together to suppress the virus.
